Our Bottoms are Red lets follow suit, GO RED

Today marks the 20th World Aids Day. Despite the sensitivity of the subject, AIDS is an issue plaguing our communities. This is not an issue beyond our control there is something we can do to prevent the spread of the disease by one simple step, GET TESTED. It is quick, fast, and easy. If you are not on any form of insurance visit your local clinic or today there are a number of agencies offering the test free of charge. It is nothing to be embarrassed about or fear doing!! Consider the statistics:

  • 33 million people in the world have HIV. 22 million live in Africa
  • more than 1 million people are infected by the virus and 1 in 5 of them don't know it
  • on December 31, 2007; Maryland had a total of 28,270 people living with HIV and AIDS (Cases reported by name through December 31, 2008).
  • there are an estimated 2,100 new HIV infections per year in Maryland.
